About US

Dan Crosby has spent his entire working life on the water (more than 40 years), involved in commercial fishing, log salvaging, marine salvage, log towing, water taxi work, and marine construction, ultimately landing in the film industry 22 years ago on the CBC television series The Beachcombers, and he hasn't looked back.

After growing up on the water with his father, Dan's son Jason Crosby joined the family business ten years ago on the production of Free Willy 3 to carry on the tradition of expertise in boat and water work for the film industry.

The extensive list of productions they have worked have given Crosby Marine a well-earned reputation for being the most experienced and respected.

Over the years Crosby Marine has invested in special equipment and custom-built vessels and has amassed a highly respected, experienced and safety-conscious crew. Crosby Marine has worked on an extensive list of shows, from low budget to high budget, and has been continually learning and evolving to meet the demands of the industry.

With Crosby Marine's practical experience and knowledge of the coast, they are able to share their knowledge of its dangers, and challenges, enabling film crews to get the shots they need in the most safe and efficient way possible.

Because of the number of years Crosby Marine has been working in local waters, they have extensive knowledge of the BC coastline, which becomes useful when location scouting. They can provide the local knowledge necessary when making decisions about tides, weather, marine traffic, permits, etc…

The goal at Crosby Marine is to make vision a reality. Crosby Marine offers a finely tuned fleet of support boats and barges, and is constantly customizing and building new boats/barges to ensure the most user-friendly equipment is available to the film industry. Crosby Marine is able to provide the following: picture boats, camera boats, tugboats, barges, crane barges, support boats, spfx boats, safety boats, as well as water taxis. Services also include stunt coordination, diving, oil and pollution containment, hauling and special effects.

Crosby Marine's skilled crew has been working within the film industry for a number of years and know what it takes to get the day's work completed. Prior to shooting, the crew at Crosby Marine works alongside each department to cater to their needs and demands and ensure the details have been taken care of prior to shooting days. Frequently asked to join in script read-throughs and production meetings, the Crosby Marine crew ensures that all of the elements involved in filming on the water come together as safely and budget friendly as possible. Always preparing ahead of time for the upcoming shots, the Crosby Marine crew takes pride in the fact that production rarely is waiting on them.

Additionally, a safety crew is always provided to ensure that everyone stays safe while filming on the water. The day starts with a safety meeting covering all safety guidelines while working on the water. These guides are monitored throughout the day to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.

The Crew:

Jason Crosby and his father Dan Crosby own and oversee Crosby Marine Film Services Inc., along with a hard working crew of professionally trained individuals who each bring to the company a strong work ethic and the understanding that safety comes first.

Having worked together for a number of years, the Crosby Marine crew is a highly efficient team. All of the members of the Crosby Marine crew have operated on the water for their working careers, and understand the challenges and safety measures involved while working on the water. Each crew member is highly skilled when it comes to safety, film etiquette, maneuvering boats, understanding marine weather/tides, as well as the proper and quick anchoring of picture/camera boats.

The Crosby Marine crew has been involved in the industry long enough to understand that things change quickly, and is able to react to these changes in a highly efficient and appropriate manner. Each crew member understands their role in the company and what is expected of them; not to mention the entire crew is very personable, enjoying what they do, and this is evident in the positive attitude the team displays.
